Nursing is a noble profession as old as humanity. The profession of medicine goes hand in hand with the profession of Nursing. There are many differences between ancient nursing and modern nursing. Ancient nursing involves more practice, less theory, no research, less independence, no registration, and no text books etc., which are rectified in the modern nursing. Nursing is a fast emerging profession not only in the area of health service, but also in the area of education. There is a quantum leap in the growth of the profession from the doctorate level to the development of a nursing university as mentioned in the agenda of annual conference of the Karnataka Government Nurses Association recently concluded.
