Course offered : Bachelors of Hospitality Science (B.Sc. (H.S))

Duration of the Course : 3 Years – Credit Based Semester Scheme spanning six semesters

Eligibility :

The candidate seeking admission to B.Sc. (H.S) Degree course must have passed the Pre-University (Class 12th or 10+2) examination or its equivalent with an aggregate of 35% marks.

Interior Design and Decoration deals with the elements inside a building, such as windows, walls, lights, furniture. It is a mixture of architecture, product design as well as decoration aesthetics which implies that there is more of an emphasis on Planning, Functional design and effective use of space involved in this profession. An interior designer can undertake projects that include arranging the basic layout of spaces within a building as well as projects that require an understanding of technical issues such as acoustics, lighting, temperature, etc. An interior designer may wish to specialize in a particular type of interior design in order to develop technical knowledge specific to that area. Types of interior design include residential design, commercial design, hospitality design, healthcare design, universal design, exhibition design, spatial branding, etc. The profession of Interior Design is relatively new, constantly evolving, and often confusing to the public. NCIDQ, the board for Interior Design qualifications, defines the profession in the best way: The Professional Interior Designer is qualified by education, experience, examination to enhance the function and quality of interior spaces.

Career Opportunities

The scope of employment opportunities for interior designers is extensive. They can be employed by architects or architectural firms, builders, public works department, hotels and resort chains, hospitals, town planning bureaus, regional and metropolitan development works, private consultancies, studios and theatres and exhibition organizers. Interior design also offers excellent opportunities for those who wish to be self employed, or prefer working part time. In fact, it is one of the few professions where one can operate from home with minimal investment.
